Has anyone had/is having a friend of theirs officiate? I am considering have my friend officiate my wedding but I am still on the fence. Any advice would be gladly appreciated.

I have a nephew that is an officiant. He does it only for family and friends. If your confident they would do a good job, it could make it much more personal and meaningful.
