Wedding formal wear - tips
So what will everyone be wearing? When planning weddings, there’s always formal wear to consider.
SHOPPING FOR BRIDESMAIDS
Your bridesmaids are made up of all your best friends, and you want to make sure they look great on your big day too. There are two different ways to approach bridesmaid shopping: you can either coordinate all the dresses to look the same, or get them to buy their own.
If want your bridesmaids to all buy the same dress, there are many things to consider. You should think about what kind of dress will compliment your wedding dress’ style. You don’t want your bridesmaids to mismatch you. Think about the color of their dresses and what will match each of them. You don’t want to choose a dress that will look good on some, but not on the rest. If finding a color is tough, consider using a two-color pallete. You’ll be able to find a flattering dress for everyone this way.
If you don’t want your bridesmaids to coordinate their dresses, then give them some guidelines to help them shop. Let them know what specific color you might have in mind. The girls can all find dresses that suit their style, but are in the color you want. Having your bridesmaids buy dresses for themselves also can help them budget for your wedding.
Whichever way you decide to choose, your bridesmaids are sure to look great.
SHOPPING FOR THE MOTHER OF THE BRIDE
So you're looking for a dress to wear for the bride's big day. While out shopping, try to find a dress that complements the wedding colors chosen. To make shopping even easier, ask the bride to send you pictures of the bridesmaids’ dresses and use that as a guide. But know, you don't necessarily have to get colors that are the same as the wedding. If you have found a dress you like that has a different color, just make sure to consult the bride. She might like your choice, or she might not see the color fitting for the occasion. At any rate, buy a dress the bride will like, but make sure you're happy with it too!
SHOPPING FOR TUXEDOS
There’s two ways to go about this: you could buy your own tuxedo, or you could rent one. If you’re not usually attending black tie events, renting a tux could be a great option for you. First of all, you're going to want to find a good formalwear store that has up-to-date attire. Then, find a good tailor to get all your measurements. Make sure to hang on to your tailor, as you'll also need them for your tuxedo fitting before the wedding, too! After your fitting, voice your wants to the formal wear dealer. They should find you a tuxedo that suits your style. After you get your tuxedo, don’t worry about the extras. The formalwear store should have all the accessories you need, such as tuxedo vests, ties, and bow-ties. Last tip: if you can, coordinate with the other guys and buy from the same store. You just might get a discount!
SHOPPING FOR KIDS
Time to dress up your kids! If your daughter is the flower girl, find a nice dress that matches with the theme of the wedding. If your son is the ring bearer, then get him a nice little tux. If he's younger than six years old, buy him a bow-tie, he'll look absolutely adorable! If he's seven years old and up, dress him up in a tie like the big boys. Just make sure to speak with the bride so you're both on the same page. No matter what, your kid is sure to look cute on this special occasion!
