Wedding transportation - tips

Transportation is essential to a smooth-running, timely wedding which keeps bridal party, tired guests and you the wedding couple feeling cared for and celebrated. Do not leave it til the last minute to arrange - get a plan together!

BOOK 6-10 MONTHS IN ADVANCE
This is especially important if you are getting married in the peak time of May or June when it is prom and graduation time and limos, town cars and formal vehicles will certainly be pre-booked fast.

CONSIDER ALTERNATIVES
Don’t just go the usual route with the standard stretch limo - match your transport with your theme! If it’s an outdoor, rustic or romantic setting you’re heading off to, a camper van, VW Microbus or wagon could be more exotic. If you’ve got a vintage feel, get a vintage car for sure, if you’re cool and contemporary, a hip party bus. If it’s a sleek, minimal classic affair, a Silver Rolls Royce still works. Also consider an original Ford Mustang, silver roadstars or a pimped out truck...how many varieties of stylish wheels are there?!

DO MAKE THE BOOKING IN PERSON
Don’t rely on phone or email/online bookings - go there and meet the staff. You do not want your vehicle hijacked by a different party! Make sure they know who is going in what and, if possible, give photos or names. Discuss paying for wait time. Sometimes it is cheaper to book a driver all day rather than pay the hundred and fifty dollars per hour fee plus tax. Also. remember to tip your driver at least $20 at the end of the day.

DON’T BE SHY ABOUT DEMANDING
This is your day and the whole point of wedding transportation is that it’s decadent and luxurious. Have your special wedding day music set up, the drink, a dress code for the driver and ensure this is all added to the contract.

REMEMBER YOUR BRIDAL PARTY
There are enough logistical headaches for your supportive bridal party without them having to work out rides too. Making sure they have comfortable transport - either a limo or large town car - to and from locations and a booked shuttle bus home after an exhausting day lets them know you are both appreciative and considerate. It will be worth the extra mile for those smiles.

BOOK SHUTTLE BUSES IF YOUR RECEPTION PARTY IS IN A REMOTE LOCATION
or the party is going to go on til late! It can work out cheaper than cabs and hotel accommodation. YOu could get camper vans, school buses, some novelty bus to ensure your guests aren’t left without a way home after drinking and partying to celebrate with you.

ENQUIRE ABOUT PACKAGES
Some companies really do ‘roll out the red carpet’ from door-to-door, stock up their cars with caviar and champers, have customized decorations, will blast your wedding playlist from a tannoy...ask about what is actually available before going to the labor of trying to do it yourself.

GET IT ALL - ALL! - IN THE CONTRACT
From the protein snacks, hydration, rug, playlist, the times, air conditioning, type of car, exact places and passengers, insurance and liability, breakdowns and everything in between - get it all in the contract and make sure both the company and yourself sign, agree and have a copy.
